MARITIME ACADEMY HELLAS- LPG Carriers

DNV GL’s Maritime Academy Hellas is offering on February 6-7 a two day course on Liquefied Petroleum Gas Carriers.
This course explains the basics of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Carriers industry, their operation, applicable statutory and special requirements including safety related matters concerning the type of cargo grades, etc. Participants will gain a deep and qualitative understanding of ‘Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)’ sector in connection with the IMO Convention and IGC Code.
Practical and theory case studies will contribute to enrich the comprehension of the LPGs Cargo Handling Operation and all Safety related matters.
Objectives:
By completion of this course, participants will be able to raise their awareness on the following topics:
· Key operational points / Steps from dry-dock until discharging
· Cargo handling (Loading/Discharging Pre-Planning)
· Cargo handling equipment
· Change of grades, precautions that should take under account
· Safety procedures, Emergency Shut Down (ESDS)
· Safety sensors, controlling equipment
· Custody transfer system (gauging/measurement/temperature & pressure control-monitoring)
· Identification of hazardous
· Dangerous zones
· Material used in cargo tanks and piping
Emphasis will be given on:
· Definition of LPG Carriers
· Variety of cargo grades
· Equipment on board LPG Carrier / Re-liquefaction plant
· Arrangement of LPG Carrier / Hazardous areas
· Ship Shore interference / Loading arms – Hose connections
· Hazards and MSDS
· Fire Fighting Protection and Special Systems
· Gas detection, environmental atmosphere control / monitoring
Entry requirements: It is assumed that the target group holds some knowledge on LPGs prior to the course. Several topics of the course may be seen as clarifications.
Duration: 2 days

· Personnel in Operations, Technical Departments responsible for LPG/Ethylene/VCM/Ammonia Carriers
· Superintendents, Newbuilding project responsible and Ships’ Officers for LPG/Ethylene/VCM/Ammonia Carriers
· Individuals seeking knowledge on the Gas Carrier Industry
Teaching Method: The course is a lecture that includes case discussions and interaction among participants. Active involvement will add to learning and will be based upon the open sharing of shipping industry experience.
