The Certificate in Shipping Course, a validation given by the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, has been designed to provide participants with a comprehensive and wide understanding of ships and shipping business.

The Company, principals, intermediaries, The Practitioners – their role and their responsibilities, National and

3. BILLS OF LADING
Term and types, Functions of B/Ls, Different types of B/L
4. SHIP MANAGEMENT AND OPERATIONS
The Structure of Ship Management Company, Crew Management
5. CHARTERING
The chartering markets, Types of charter, How a deal is made, authority and responsibility, after the fixture, Brokerage, specialist brokers
6. BULK CARRIER & TANKER DOCUMENTS
Types of Charter parties, Other documents
7.PORT AGENCY
Agent and his role/ duties, Port Authorities, Port Services and the providers, cargo working, husbandry, local requirements, Basic laytime concepts
8.PORT AND CARGOES
The location, origin and facilities of ports.
9. LINER AGENCY DOCUMENTATION
The agency agreement, Space allocation, sales & marketing, dealing with cargo bookings, special cargo, documentation and consortia
Assessment:
Participants are required to submit nine test papers of multiple choice questions plus an equivalent number of short written essays of about 150 words each. At the end of the course participants will be required to attend an assessment interview. The best six out of the first eight test papers plus the mark obtained from the interview will count for the final mark.
Addressed to:
– New entrants with little or no exposure to the industry
– All involved in executive shipping administration
– Applicants at the ICS Professional Maritime Programme who wish to attend an introductory course
– Investors, lawyers, financial managers and similar professionals working in the industry
– Suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, customs officers, export managers and retailers
Duration:
The duration is 36 hours and lectures take place from 19:00 to 21:00, the following dates: 02, 03, 07, 09, 14, 17, 21, 23, 30 & 31/05, 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 25 & 27/06
Fees:
1200 Euros (including Tuition Fees, CIS Textbook, Workbook and study packs)
Certification:
All participants passing the test papers and the interview will be awarded with a certificate of attendance, given by the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.
Subsidy:
The Course can be subsidized by the Greek Manpower Employment Organization (O.A.E.D.) by LAEK 0, 24% Subsidy.
