Electric Ferries: Establishing a new industry in Greece
31 May 2022 @ 17:00 - 20:30
Ships were driven by the wind for thousands of years. But from the start of the 19th century, this task was increasingly taken over by engines.
With efficiency and emissions high on the agenda for governments and regulatory bodies, various technologies are examined by the industry as possible alternatives to internal combustion engine. Undoubtedly, electricity is ranking high among the alternatives, while countries like Norway are heavily investing on fully electric vessels.
Reality has shown that ferries are ideal vessels for full electric propulsion due to shorter distances and the turnaround time when they dock. But how has Norway managed to overcome all the barriers related to the fully electric ferries?
The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Athens and Isalos.net are organising a Conference entitled “Electric Ferries: Establishing a new industry in Greece” on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 from 17:00 to 20:30, at the Eugenides Planetarium (11, Pentelis st, Palaio Faliro, Greece).
The main aim of the event is to offer a common ground for mutually beneficial discussions between Greek and Norwegian maritime stakeholders mainly focusing on the lessons learnt from the electrification of Norwegian vessels and the prospects of creating an electric-ferries industry in Greece.
The participation is free of charge, but registration is required here.
