About the Seminar
The seminar offers a practical exploration of time and voyage charter clauses, focusing on risk and liability from a commercial perspective. Participants will gain insights into critical aspects of voyage and time charter parties, enhancing their understanding of key clauses and their implications.
Specific Areas Covered:
Vessel description: Understand the differences when giving, even as indicative, speed and consumption on a voyage charter and when not
Port Charter/Berth Charter: Tendering NOR, when, how, potential risks by tendering NOR the wrong way. Does NOR need to be tendered again after holds fail?
Distribution of Risks: Owner/Charterer position on a voyage CP. Understand the different risks involved and how one can safeguard his interests
Lay/Can: Cancelling clause, Common Law requirements, notice to narrow or move Lay/Can
Laytime: Understanding Lay time, when is it triggered and stopped. Case study on load/discharging with barges
Deduction from Freight: Setting off damages of an injured party against agreed sums
Freight Payment: When is freight due, right to freight, lien
Standard Set of Clauses: A quick snapshot of a Voyage CP in terms of clauses

Vessel Description: Understanding the meaning of “ABOUT” and “WOG” as well as their consequences
Hire Payment: Understand the difference of hire payment being a primary and an absolute obligation and why it not excused to fail it

Underpayment: Explanation on Withdrawal for Underpayment
Liens: Contractual Liens and how they work
Speed and Bunker Consumption: Understand how we can form and/or avoid and underperformance claim
Charterers’ Orders: Explain and thoroughly understand how Charterers Orders should be issued to avoid misunderstandings

The seminar will be delivered exclusively online by fully tutored live learning. Once your registration is completed, you will receive an email with all the information and the link for the webinars. For your participation no special equipment is needed except a camera and a microphone.

Cpt. Andreas Georgiou FICS, Managing Director, Gregale (Dry Bulk) Shipping
Capt. Andreas Georgiou is born in 1973 in Athens. After graduating Leonteio Lykeio Patission in 1991, he attended the Hellenic Merchant Marine Academy and graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor in Nautical Science. He served on board Bulk Carriers, RoRos and Cruisers as well as in various Navy units as a Naval Officer. Started his career ashore as an operator of handy bulk carriers at ADRIATICO Ltd. and quickly added chartering in his activities. After being 13 years with Eurochart SA as a chartering manager, Ursa Shipbrokers in the same position, Managing Director at Grace Trading Corporation LLC and he is now the Director of GREGALE (DRY BULK) SHIPPING, operator of Dry Cargoes and Vessels. Holds a MSc in Marine IT applications and a second one on international relations. Apart from Greek which is his mother tongue, he also speaks English, French, Italian and German. Among other academic publications he has also published two more papers on correlation of the BDI with other economic figures.
